Us
You haven’t heard from us for a while, but we are still here. : )
We are still madly in love, and growing deeper in it ever single day, by God’s grace (just passed 18 months!!).
We are busy in our callings.
Steven
Loving Husband: Keeps our family going in a Christ honoring direction; Picks roses for his wife almost every day; Current out loud readings are in Exodus and To Have and to Hold.
Visionary Deacon: dreaming big dreams while walking faithfully day by day with the people in our flock.
Creative Computer Engineer: rescuing people all over the country and world from mean and nasty technology.
Ham Radio Enthusiast: preparing our family to attend a local field day.
Rebecca
Happy Homemaker: recently painted the master bedroom, and tackling all sorts of organizing projects.
Bursts-of-Inspiration-Composer: still writing hymns on ReflectHymn.com, occasionally cries, “Pen and ink! Pen and ink!”
Aspiring Photographer: taking a class, honored to help with a wedding and family photo shoot.
Crazy Cook and Nutritionist: lacto fermented mustard, ginger ale, and hollandaise sauce have been the latest.
Both of us are enjoying lots of company (Come on by! We’ll leave the light on for you : ), everyday adventures, and growing together in the Lord.
Both of us have been more recently involved in a variety of pro-life activities.
Both of us are engaged in the battle against ants and spiders! Leave us a comment if you have a good suggestion for getting rid of them naturally (besides squishing them, that is).
We are looking forward to all that God has for us in the future, yet are enjoying each day He gives us, one by one.

Those of us in CA are in a constant battle against ants, in my opinion… :P We’ve found diatomaceous earth to be a lifesaver in regard to naturally getting rid of ant infestations. You can pick it up at most plant nurseries…it also works great against earwigs!

Good to hear from you!
My mom would put a trail of Borax where it looked like the ants were coming in. They have invaded my kitchen this spring but, for some reason, they are interested in my sink. A blast of water takes care of those little wretches!

Dear Steven and Rebecca,
It is wonderful to see you both again. Lovely picture and it sounds like you are staying profitably busy in the Lord’s work together. The ReflectHymns are wonderful – keep up the great work Rebecca. May God be glorified!
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hello! I have never commented before but read from time to time. :) I saw that you are having issues with ants…as was I last year until my mother gave me her recipe for ant killer.
I recently wrote a post about it including the recipe. Here is the link:

After I put out this poison for the ants, in less than 48 hours ALL my ants were GONE. :) Hope it helps you!

Sally, that’s a pretty cool potion but I have one that’s lots less trouble. Mix a little granulated sugar with more baking soda (the stuff in the yellow box). Lay a thin line of the mixture along the walls where the ants are marching in, hoorah, hoorah. ;-) They will eat the sugar but along with it, the baking soda. The baking soda will expand in their little ant tummies [or whatever the correct term is] and voila’, ants no more.
Easy, dry, doesn’t hurt pets and/or too-quick kiddoes. Good luck to all who wrestle with those tiny pests!

Good to see you posting again. It looks like you are keeping very busy. We have ant problems here too, and I use vinegar soaked paper towels. I wipe down the area and then leave the towel out overnight. The ants don’t seem to like it. Also, a thin stream of Dawn dishwashing liquid seems to deter them too.
Keep up the good work with your hymn writing!

You have received much ant advice and I am so happy because I have none that doesn’t include a toxic substance. My comment is on the madly in love part! I am so happy to hear madly in love, you two. I miss you! …and am so happy to hear the updates so that I can picture what you two sweeties are up to while being madly in love (makes all those tasks so much more fun and easy). Thank you for the news and have a great time with your family. I will be sending hugs and kisses. Thinking about you (being madly in love) often! Lots of love, Mrs. H. (I am smiling big)

We’ve had good results with osage orange for spiders. You leave them around, sitting on a small piece of foil, and they naturally repel spiders. I have no idea why, but it seems to work! You can find them at farmer’s markets occasionally, but they don’t last long, so ask around as to when. I don’t remember–it’s been a while since we lived in a spidery house. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maclura_pomifera

I too had a issue with ants last year and researched the best nontoxic way to get rid of them. I mixed Borax and peanut butter together as weel as Borax and jelly. It took a few days for the ants to take the Borax back to the colony. But I haven’t had a problem with ants since. This link really helped me understand how to ants work and how to get rid of them. http://tipnut.com/ant-killer/

so glad to check in and see how well you are both doing. i had a problem with big black ants years ago. in the early summer if we had a drop of watermelon juice, they would form a conga line across my kitchen floor straight for it (or anything else sweet). someone sent me an email with 101 uses for a dryer sheet and one was to keep ants out of your house. if you know where they are coming in you shove a dryer sheet in the whole. apparently they don’t like the smell and won’t cross it. i pushed mine under the crack in my baseboard where i could see them entering and haven’t seen them since. as i said earlier, it has been years. and as a bonus your home will smell like clean laundry instead of chemicals :-)

Hello there! Hope you are both doing well. I have a note to send but sigh…. It is in one of the several homeschool boxes waiting to be unpacked. We had a shift in rooms. All our renovations and we got a homeschool room! YEAH!! So I will have to dig it out and send it. Maybe just update it or send a new one huh??? Still thinking and praying for you often. Hugs!
